The Odigitrievsky Cathedral itself, being a place of worship, doesn't have its own food history. However, as a historical monument in Ulan Ude, the capital city of the Republic of Buryatia, Russia, it can be associated with the food culture of the region. Buryat cuisine evolved from the traditional lifestyle of the Buryat people, indigenous to the area around Lake Baikal. It traditionally includes a lot of dairy products and meat, mainly from mutton, fish, and poultry, respecting the dietary restrictions of Buddhist believers in the area, who do not consume cow meat. Since Ulan Ude is an ethnically diverse city, Russian and Buryat influences blend, creating unique culinary traditions.
