Before you can enjoy the historical sights of the Old Town and the beautiful Marktkirche, you need to get to Hanover. Hanover is well connected by various modes of transportation.
Arrive at Hanover Airport (HAJ) which is situated approximately 11 km to the north of the city center. From there, you can take the S-Bahn line S5 which directly connects the airport to the central station Hanover Hauptbahnhof in about 20 minutes.
If you are coming by train, your destination will be Hanover Hauptbahnhof, the central railway station. It is a major hub that is well serviced by regional and international trains.
Opting for a car journey, Hanover is accessible via the A2 and A7 motorways. There are ample parking spaces around the city center, but the Old Town is best explored on foot.
Long-distance buses arrive at Hanover Bus Station (ZOB), located near the central station. From there, you can take public transport or walk to the Old Town.
To reach the Old Town and Marktkirche from Hanover Hauptbahnhof or any other part of the city, you can make use of Hanover's public transportation network which includes trams, buses, and the S-Bahn.
The tram (Stadtbahn) lines 3, 7, and 9 will take you to Markthalle/Landtag, which is a convenient stop to explore the Old Town and is a short walk away from the Marktkirche. Alternatively, bus routes also serve the area around the Old Town.
The Old Town (Altstadt) is compact and walking is the best way to explore its charm. From Hanover Hauptbahnhof, it is a pleasant 10-15 minute walk to reach the Old Town and Marktkirche. Head in the direction of Kröpcke, then continue towards the historical center.
Hanover is a bike-friendly city with numerous rental stations where you can pick up a bike and cycle to the Old Town. Secure bike parking is available in the area.
When visiting religious sites like the Marktkirche, remember to be respectful and check in advance if there are any visitor restrictions due to services or events. The Old Town is also known for its small shops and local markets, so plan some extra time for wandering and exploration.
