Pamir Botanical Garden, nestled near Khorog on the Pamirs, is one of the highest botanical gardens in the world, at an altitude of about 2320 meters above sea level, overlooking the Panj River with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. Spanning nearly 17 hectares (about 42 acres), the garden is a sanctuary of diverse plant species, both native and foreign. It was established in 1940 by Russian botanist Nikolai Rozov. Today, it serves as both a tourist attraction and a center for scientific research, contributing tremendously to the study of high-altitude plants and their adaptation to the rugged mountain climate. It particularly shines during spring and summer when flowers bloom across its terraced grounds, against the stark, dramatic backdrop of the Pamir ranges. Visiting this tranquil oasis offers a unique chance to see flora from different climactic zones around the world, cultivated and acclimated to high-altitude conditions, while also experiencing the cultural richness of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.
