Panfilov Park, also known as 28 Panfilov Guardsmen Park, is a historic park located in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Named after the 28 soldiers of an Almaty infantry unit who died fighting Nazis outside Moscow, the park is a serene green expanse amidst the urban landscape of Almaty. At its heart stands one of Almaty's most recognizable landmarks, the Zenkov Cathedral, officially known as the Ascension Cathedral. This Russian Orthodox cathedral is noted for its brightly colored wooden structure, built at the beginning of the 20th century without the use of nails, and one of the few Tsarist-era buildings to survive the 1911 earthquake. The park also contains the Memorial of Glory and Eternal Flame, honoring the memory of the fallen soldiers of World War II. Visitors can stroll along leafy pathways, admire the monuments and historical buildings, and enjoy the peaceful ambiance. It serves as a popular gathering place for locals and tourists alike, offering a slice of history amidst the contemporary culture of Almaty.
