The archaeological site of Pompeii offers a rich tapestry of Ancient Roman life, and food is no exception. Before the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, Pompeii was a prosperous city with a diverse and sophisticated culinary culture. Seafood and meats were also consumed by those who could afford them, but we'll focus on vegetarian options as per your guidelines.

A variety of eateries known as "thermopolia" were common in Pompeii, functioning similarly to modern-day fast-food restaurants. They served hot, ready-to-eat meals to Pompeiians on the go.
