Rangkul Lake is a high-altitude lake situated in the autonomous region of Gorno-Badakhshan, located in the eastern part of Tajikistan. It sits in the Murghab district near the border with China. This remote lake is one of the pristine attractions of the Pamir Mountains, sometimes referred to as the 'Roof of the World' due to its immense elevations. The lake is surrounded by arid and rugged landscapes that exemplify the unique beauty of the Pamir region. Surrounded by peaks that are often snow-capped, Rangkul Lake is located in a cold desert climate and provides a habitat for a variety of wildlife, including Marco Polo sheep and rare species of birds. The area around the lake remains sparsely populated, with semi-nomadic Kyrgyz herders being the primary inhabitants. Traveling to Rangkul Lake is a journey through some of the most remote terrains on Earth, and it offers an insight into the traditional lifestyles that have survived in this harsh climate. The lake itself has brackish water and is known for its serenity and the stunning panoramic views it offers of the Pamir mountains.
