Saint Hripsime Church is an architectural masterpiece dating back to the 7th century and is located in Echmiadzin, Armenia, considered the spiritual center of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Designed by the renowned Armenian architect Trdat the Architect, it stands as a classic example of Armenian church architecture, characterized by its distinctive conical dome over a drum and crisp stone masonry work. The church is dedicated to Saint Hripsime, a Christian nun who fled to Armenia to escape Roman persecution, only to be martyred upon her arrival. Her relics are said to be housed within the church. The structure is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its historical significance and outstanding architecture that has influenced church design across the region. Its compact cruciform plan, corner niches, and sturdy central dome exemplify the zenith of early medieval Armenian architecture. The exterior of the church is adorned with intricate stone carvings and khachkars (cross-stones), while the interior remains relatively sparse, befitting the austere beauty typical of Armenian ecclesiastical buildings.
The church is considered to be a masterpiece of its nitches and a huge heavy dome among other architects in Armenia. It dates back to the 7th century and is dedicated to Saint Hripsime.

Very beautiful church dating back to the 7th Century, dedicated to the Saint Hripsime and hosting her human remains. A beautiful combined stop when visiting the seat of the head of the Armenian Orthod..
Went in the morning of March 2024 and there were white flowers all around. The complex is nice and has a beautiful garden.

Worth a visit
Beautiful church and nice history lesson with our tour guide of Hyur Service. The little chapel with roses and the supposed rocks used to stone her to death is worth a look.
