Best Time To Visit Sendai Castle (Sendai) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Sendael Castle in Sendai, Japan

Spring (late March to early May) is arguably the best time to visit Sendai Castle, also known as Aoba Castle, situated in Sendai, Japan. During spring, the cherry blossoms around the castle grounds are in full bloom, particularly in April, creating a breathtaking view of the castle enveloped in a soft pink hue. The annual Sendai Aoba Festival, which usually takes place in late April or early May, is another significant highlight. The festival features vibrant parades, traditional performances, and the Yosakoi Dance, offering visitors a rich cultural experience against the historic backdrop of Sendai Castle.

Visiting in the autumn months, especially from late September to November, is also recommended. During this time, the surrounding Zelkova trees take on a stunning palette of red, yellow, and orange, providing a colorful tapestry that beautifully complements the castle's Edo-era stone walls and structures. The cooler temperatures and the lesser crowd make exploring the extensive castle ruins and nearby attractions, like the Sendai City Museum, more comfortable and serene. To fully immerse in the local history and enjoy the castle's architectural heritage amid the autumn colors, aiming for a trip during these months will be rewarding.
