Sheetla Mata Mandir Tourism
Type of destination: Hindu Temple
Ideal visit duration: 1-2 hours
Sheetla Mata Mandir, located in Gurugram (Gurgaon), Haryana, India, is a Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Sheetla Devi, who is also known as Mata Masani, the goddess of smallpox. The temple is considered one of the most sacred pilgrimages in the region and attracts a large number of devotees throughout the year, particularly during the Hindu month of Chaitra (March-April) for the Chaitra Mela. The presiding deity, Sheetla Mata, is represented in the form of a stone, known as 'pindi' in local parlance. According to belief, the temple stands on the spot where the goddess cured Yudhishthira, the eldest Pandava from the epic Mahabharata, from an illness. The architecture of the temple is fairly simple with a large courtyard, and a sanctum enshrining the goddess. The ambience is serene and spiritual, offering a peaceful retreat from the urban sprawl of Gurugram.
