Sheki Fortress is a historic fortress located in the picturesque town of Sheki, in the foothoric region of the Greater Caucasus mountains in Azerbaijan. Constructed in the 15th century, during the reign of the Shirvanshahs, the fortress is an emblem of the town's past significance in the region. The fortification has withstood various historical events and has been a witness to the passage of different empires. It was built to protect the town and the Khan's palace, which lies within its walls. The walls, made of stone and brick, cover a large area and are punctuated with defense towers. The Sheki Fortress retains a fairy-tale charm, nestled in a landscape dominated by lush forests and rugged mountains. Sheki was an important stop on the ancient Silk Route and became known for its crafts and silk production. Inside the fortress, the Sheki Khans' Palace, with its stunning stained glass windows (shebeke) and intricate frescoes, is a highlight. Visitors can explore the house of craftsmanship within the fortress walls, where the Sheki's artisan legacy is preserved, offering insight into centuries-old techniques in textiles, metalwork, and pottery.
