The Shrine of the Cloak, also known as Kherqa Sharif, is located in the city of Kandahar, Afghanistan. It is a revered relic of the Islamic world as it is believed to house the cloak that belonged to the Prophet Muhammad. This mosque-cum-shrine is an exemplar of Islamic architecture intertwined with Afghani culture. Adorned with a distinctive green dome and white marbled walls, the shrine stands as a significant religious site for Islamic adherents. It has been a pilgrimage destination and also plays a vital political role, as the cloak was historically used to legitimize the authority of leaders who had possession of it. Historically, the Shrine has witnessed several reconstructions, most notably by Ahmad Shah Durrani, the founder of the modern state of Afghanistan, in the 18th century. It is not only a spiritual center but also a symbol of national pride that connects the rich history of Afghanistan with its present.
