Best Time to Visit Siju Cave (Siju Dobkhakol)

Located near the small town of Baghmara in the Indian state of Meghalaya, Siju Cave, also known as Siju Dobkhakol, is one of the natural wonders of the region. The limestone caves are renowned for their complex system of waterways, impressive stalactites and stalagmites, and the rare bat species that call the caves home. The ideal time to visit Siju Cave is during the dry months, typically from November to March. This period sees less rainfall in Meghalaya, making it safer and more comfortable to explore the caves, as the water levels inside the cave system are much lower.

During the peak visiting season, particularly from December to February, the weather remains cool and pleasant, with minimal rain interrupting your exploratory plans. These months are also ideal for bird watchers as the migratory birds are present during this time. Keep in mind, however, that the cave can be dark and damp even during the best season, so visitors are advised to carry good torches and wear appropriate footwear. Avoid the monsoon season from June to September, when heavy rains can cause flooding in the cave, making it inaccessible and unsafe for tourists.
