Visit Simsang River in Baghmara, Meghalaya

The Simsang River, a perennial stream that meanders through the lush landscape of Baghmara, a small town in the South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, India, is best enjoyed during certain times of the year. The most ideal period for visiting the Simsang River would be between the late autumn and early spring months, from October to April. During these months, the weather in Meghalaya is typically dry and pleasantly cool, making it perfect for outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, and exploring the pristine natural surroundings.

Rains in Meghalaya start to subside by October after the intense monsoon season which generally ends in late September. This transition results in the landscapes being incredibly green and the river levels being ideal for various activities. Moreover, the drier climate helps prevent disruptions in travel plans, as the heavy summer monsoon rains often cause landslides and unpredictable river flows. Visiting during this window also allows tourists to witness the bustling harvest festivals of the indigenous communities, which are often vibrant and full of cultural splendour. A visit outside of the monsoon will ensure that your experience by the Simsang River is safe, engaging, and visually stunning.
