Souq AlMubarakiya is one of the oldest and most traditional markets in Kuwait City. Its food history is deeply intertwined with the cultural heritage of the region. For generations, this marketplace has been a hub for the trade of spices, grains, and fresh produce coming via the dhow boats from various parts of the Middle East and Asia. Over time, the souq has evolved to include a myriad of restaurants and food stalls showcasing Kuwait’s rich culinary legacy, blending the influence of Mesopotamian, Arabian, and Persian cuisines. Traditionally, the diet focused a lot on seafood, given the country’s proximity to the Persian Gulf, as well as a variety of rice dishes, flatbreads, and an assortment of vegetarian delicacies with strong flavors influenced by the spice trade.
