Located on the Kumari Hills at the bank of the River Rushikulya near Berhampur in Odisha, India, Taratarini Temple is one of the oldest pilgrimage centers of Mother Goddess and is one of the four major ancient Shakti Peethas in the country. The temple is most vibrant and spiritual during the special Hindu festival days, especially throughout the month of Chaitra (March-April), when the Chaitra Parba/Chaitra Mela is celebrated. This period is considered to be the most auspicious and attracts thousands of devotees from around the country who come to offer prayers and worship the Goddesses Tara and Tarini.
Tuesdays of this month are particularly significant with devotees walking barefooted to reach the temple as a mark of respect and devotion. If you are interested in experiencing the cultural festivity of this temple, this period would be the best time to visit. However, climatically, the ideal time to visit the Taratarini Temple would be the cooler months of October to February, as Odisha experiences a tropical climate which makes the summers (May to July) extremely hot and monsoons (July to September) heavily rainy which might pose difficulties in accessing the temple.
