Step 2: Dili to Ermera
From Dili, you can travel by road to Ermera - the city nearest to Tatamailau. The journey can take around 2-3 hours by car or motorbike. Rental cars and motorbikes are available in Dili, as well as public transport options like minibuses or 'microlets'.

By Foot:

Step 3: Ermera to Tatamailau
Once in Ermera, proceed to the village of Hato Builico, which is the usual starting point for treks up Mount Ramelau. The road to Hato Builico is steep and can be challenging, but it offers spectacular views and experiences of rural Timor-Leste. In Hato Builico, you can arrange for a local guide to accompany you up the mountain.

Trekking:

Step 4: Ascent of Tatamailau
The trek to the summit can take 3-4 hours starting from Hato Builico. It is recommended to start the trek early in the morning to witness the sunrise from the summit. The pathway is well established, and along with your local guide, it is both a spiritual and adventurous journey. Ensure you are well-prepared with appropriate clothing, as temperatures can be quite cold, especially at higher altitudes.
