Tian Tan Buddha, also known as the Big Buddha, is a colossal bronze statue situated on Lantau Island in Hong Kong, China. Standing at 34 meters high and facing north towards mainland China, it is one of the largest seated Buddha statues in the world. The statue is located at Ngong Ping, near the Po Lin Monastery, which further adds to the site's spiritual significance. It was completed in 1993 and symbolizes the harmonious relationship between man and nature, people and faith. Visitors have to climb 268 steps to reach the Buddha, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including the lush mountains and the South China Sea. The Big Buddha is seated on a lotus throne atop a three-platform altar and is surrounded by eight smaller bronze statues representing gods or immortals. The statue is a major center of Buddhism in Hong Kong and is also a popular tourist attraction. Visitors also explore the nearby Ngong Ping Village, Wisdom Path, and the scenic cable car ride that offers stunning views on the way to the Buddha.
