Train Ride from the Lower to the Upper Grotto Tourism

The Jeita Grotto is a system of two separate, but interconnected, karstic limestone caves spanning an overall length of nearly 9 kilometers. Located in the Nahr al-Kalb valley within the locality of Jeita, Lebanon, these caves are situated 18 kilometers north of the capital Beirut. The lower cave was discovered in 1836 and can be explored via a serene boat ride, navigating a subterranean river. The upper grotto, discovered later in 1958, presents a series of chambers with collections of stalactites and stalagmites formed through millions of years of natural processes. The train ride in Jeita Grotto connects visitors from the entrance to the lower grotto, where they can commence their boat journey. The Jeita Grotto serves as a major tourist attraction, showcasing the natural beauty and geological formation of the region. It also provides a vital source of fresh water for the locals. The caves were finalist in the New 7 Wonders of Nature competition in 2011.
