Turtuk Village is a secluded and serene hamlet situated in the Nubra tehsil of Ladakh in the northernmost part of India. It was opened to tourists only in 2010, and thus, remains one of the lesser-explored places in Ladakh. Turtuk is known for its unique Balti culture, language, and exquisite organic apricots. Perched at an altitude of about 3,000 meters above sea level, this village lies close to the Line of Control between India and Pakistan. Immersed in lush green barley fields, Turtuk offers visitors a peek into a lifestyle that has remained unchanged for centuries. Rich in apricot orchards, the landscape of Turtuk is strikingly different from the moon-like, barren topography that is characteristic of the rest of Ladakh. The people of Turtuk, known for their hospitality, are predominantly followers of Islam and follow a lifestyle that resonates with the Balti traditions. Turtuk is famed for its peaceful ambiance, crystal clear streams, and the cultural and historical insight it provides into the Balti way of life.
