The Underwater Military Museum in Aqaba, Jordan is a unique attraction where military machines serve as an artificial reef for marine life. Opened in July 2019, it is positioned at a depth ranging from 15 to 28 meters beneath the Red Sea's surface. The museum spans an area of 19,000 square meters and contains a collection of decommissioned military hardware, deliberately submerged to create an underwater playground for divers and to promote coral growth. This collection includes tanks, an ambulance, a military crane, a troop carrier, an anti-aircraft battery, and even a combat helicopter, all carefully demilitarized and placed on the seabed. The initiative aims to foster an environment that encourages the flourishing of a new ecosystem. It's not only a dive site but also a commentary on the repurposing of military apparatus in a way that serves the environment. The museum is accessible to divers of all skill levels and provides a surreal experience as they navigate between wartime relics that have taken on a new purpose amidst the vibrant sea life that has started to inhabit the structures.
