The origins of tourism in Vagamon can be traced back to the British colonial era when the area was used as a summer retreat by the British officials. The cool climate and picturesque landscapes were particularly appealing during the hot summer months. Even though Vagamon Lake wasn't the central point of tourism at the time, it still played a part in attracting visitors to the region.

Post-Independence Growth

After India's independence, the beauty of Vagamon, including Vagamon Lake, started getting more recognition, leading to an increase in domestic tourism. The influx of visitors from neighboring states and towns marked the beginning of a new chapter for Vagamon as a local tourism hub.

Spike in Popularity

In recent decades, Vagamon Lake has seen a spike in popularity, thanks in part to the efforts of the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) and its initiative to promote the ‘God’s Own Country’. With a focus on eco-tourism and sustainable travel, Vagamon, and its lake have attracted tourists who are looking for a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Adventure Tourism and Activities

Vagamon Lake not only offers scenic beauty but also serves as a hub for adventure tourism with activities such as boating, angling, and trekking around the area. This has widened the appeal of Vagamon to include adventure seekers and nature lovers alike.
