Kannur Tourism

Kannur, also known as Cannanore, is a coastal city in the northern part of Kerala state, India. It is famed for its vibrant culture, historical significance, and picturesque beaches. The city is the administrative headquarters of the Kannur district and has been an important trading center since ancient times, with a history that includes the colonial influence of the Portuguese, the Dutch, and the British. Kannur is known for its ritualistic folk arts like Theyyam, an ancient form of worship that combines dance, mime, and music. The city's natural attractions include Payyambalam Beach, Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach – the longest drive-in beach in Asia, and the green expanse of the Western Ghats. Kannur also has a rich martial arts heritage with Kalaripayattu, one of the oldest fighting systems in existence. The city's economy is a mix of traditional industries, such as handloom and coir, and modern sectors such as information technology. Kannur's naval academy, Ezhimala Naval Academy, is the largest of its kind in Asia.
