Wat Traimit, also known as the Temple of the Golden Buddha, is a prominent cultural landmark located in Bangkok, Thailand. It is famed for housing the world's largest solid gold Buddha statue, which stands at nearly 5 meters in height and weighs approximately 5.5 tons. The statue's origins date back to the 13th or 14th century and it is a magnificent example of Sukhothai art. For many years, the Golden Buddha was concealed under a layer of stucco and colored glass to hide its real value, and it was only rediscovered by accident in the 1950s when the statue was being moved, and the plaster cracked to reveal the gold underneath. The temple is situated at the end of Yaowarat Road, very close to Hualamphong Railway Station and Chinatown, making it easily accessible for visitors. The site consists of several buildings, including the main chapel that houses the Golden Buddha, exhibition areas depicting the history of the statue, and a four-floor museum that celebrates the Chinese heritage of the region. Wat Traimit's stunning structures are adorned with intricate designs and are a serene place for worship and meditation.
