Best Time To Visit Whale Shark Diving (Conrad Maldives Rangali Island) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Whale Shark Diving at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island

The optimal period for whale shark diving near the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is during the Southwest Monsoon season, which spans from May to December. During these months, plankton blooms caused by the southwest monsoon currents draw these gentle giants closer to the surface and closer to the inner atolls, providing a better opportunity for divers and snorkelers to encounter them. The visibility might be slightly reduced due to the plankton, but this is what attracts whale sharks to the area. It is important to schedule your diving trips with local experts who know the best spots and times to maximize your chances of an unforgettable encounter.

While whale shark sightings can occur year-round in the waters surrounding Rangali Island, the highest concentration and the possibility of sightings increase during late August to November. During this peak season, not only the frequency of sightings goes up, but also the likelihood of spotting multiple whale sharks in a single trip. Tour operators on the island typically offer dedicated whale shark excursions that cater to both novice and experienced divers, ensuring a safe and respectful experience with these majestic creatures. Remember to book your diving excursions well in advance, particularly if you are visiting within the peak season, to secure your spot with a reputable guide.
