Yekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts

History of the Museum

The Yekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts can trace its origins back to the early 20th century when the Ural Society of Natural Science Lovers established it in 1936. However, it wasn't until after World War II that the museum received a significant amount of its current collection. The museum's vibrant history reflects not only in its diverse collections but also in the rich cultural tapestry of Yekaterinburg itself, a city straddling the boundary between Europe and Asia.

Art Collections

Over time, the museum has cultivated an impressive range of artworks, including Russian and European fine art pieces, with a particularly renowned collection of cast iron figures that are emblematic of the Ural's industrial significance. These figures include both Classical statues and works of Soviet realism, making it a unique aspect of their collection. In addition to the cast iron collection, the museum houses an array of paintings, graphics, decorative arts, and icons.
