Best Time To Visit Asama Onsen (Matsumoto) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Asama Onset, Matsumoto, Japan

One of the most idyllic times to visit Asama Onsen in Matsumoto is during the spring months, especially April through May. During this period, travelers can enjoy the double delights of a warm onsen experience alongside the breathtaking view of the cherry blossoms, or sakura, which typically bloom in April. The temperature is comfortably cool, making it ideal for strolling around the area and exploring the nearby Matsumoto Castle, with its own cherry trees providing a spectacular backdrop. Moreover, spring is the season for various local festivals, adding a cultural dimension to your visit.

Alternatively, the autumn months of October and November are equally recommended for a trip to Asama Onsen. The weather is pleasant, rarely too hot or too cold, and the changing leaves offer a stunning palette of red, orange, and yellow, which beautifully contrasts the traditional architecture and natural hot springs. Autumn also promises fewer crowds compared to the hustle and bustle of the summer holidays, allowing for a more serene and intimate experience at the onsen. It’s a perfect time for those wishing to unwind and enjoy the tranquil beauty of Japanese nature at its finest.
