Asinelli Tower Tourism

The Asinelli Tower, located in Bologna, Italy, is an iconic symbol of the city with a rich history dating back to its completion in 1119. Standing at approximately 97 meters tall, it is the tallest of the remaining medieval structures in Bologna and offers a panoramic view of the cityscape. Originally constructed by the Asinelli family, it later served as a prison and a stronghold before being purchased by the city in the 19th century. The tower is made of brick, and its wooden interiors contain a steep staircase with nearly 500 steps leading to the top. This historic landmark is part of the 'Due Torri' (Two Towers), along with the shorter Garisenda Tower, which both dominate Bologna's skyline. The lean of the Asinelli Tower, although not as pronounced as its counterpart's, adds to its charm and is a result of a foundation settled unevenly. Its architectural significance is complemented by its role as a testament to Bologna's medieval wealth and importance. The tower has been well-preserved and is a popular tourist attraction.
