The Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, often simply referred to as Frari Church, is a prominent landmark located in the heart of Venice. To visit this magnificent church, here are several options for transportation:

By Foot

Venice is a pedestrian-friendly city with signs posted throughout to help tourists navigate to major landmarks. The Frari Church is within walking distance from many central locations in Venice. The walk is itself a part of the Venetian experience, taking you through picturesque canals and narrow alleyways.

Vaporetto (Water Bus)

The Venice public transport company, ACTV, operates the vaporetto, which is a primary mode of transportation in the city. For the Frari Church:

  • From the main train station (Santa Lucia): Take lines 1 or 2 and disembark at the San Tomà stop. From there, the church is a short walk away.
  • From Piazzale Roma: You can also catch lines 1 or 2 to the San Tomà stop.
  • From the Rialto area: The San Tomà stop is also accessible via line 1 or 2 which will take you along the Grand Canal.

Water Taxi

If you're looking for a more private mode of transportation, water taxis are available throughout the city. They can be expensive, but offer a direct and comfortable way to reach your destination.

By Train

If you are coming from outside Venice, the closest train station is Santa Lucia. From there, you can walk or take a vaporetto to reach the Frari Church.

Arriving by Car

Visitors arriving by car should park at one of the car parks located in Piazzale Roma or on the island of Tronchetto, as cars are not allowed within the historic city. From these car parks, you can take a vaporetto or walk to the church.

Arriving by Plane

If you're arriving by air:

  • From Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE), you can take a water bus (Alilaguna) or a water taxi directly to Venice. Buses and taxis are also available to take you to Piazzale Roma.
  • From Treviso Airport (TSF), which is used by some low-cost airlines, ATVO and Barzi bus services offer direct connections to Venice Piazzale Roma.

Note: Once you arrive at Piazzale Roma or the Santa Lucia train station, you can walk or take a vaporetto to the Frari Church, as above mentioned.

Remember to check timetables and ticket options for public transportation in Venice as they can change seasonally. The city also offers tourist travel cards that can save you money on transportation if you plan to use the vaporetto frequently during your stay.
