Food History of Berlin, Germany

The food history of Berlin is as diverse as its population, reflecting the influences of the many communities that have settled in the city throughout the years. Traditional Berlin cuisine is hearty and rustic, with an emphasis on pork, poultry, fish, peas, beans, and potatoes. Since the 20th century, Berlin's food scene has been significantly enriched by the immigrant populations, particularly Turkish and Arabic communities, which introduced foods such as the Döner kebab.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the city became a melting pot of culinary innovation, infusing traditional German dishes with international flavors.
