Biligiriranga Hills, commonly known as B.R. Hills, is a hill range situated in south-eastern Karnataka, at its border with Tamil Nadu, in South India. This majestic hill range is named after the Biligiri Ranganatha Swamy Temple that is perched on the highest peak. The hill range uniquely runs north to south amidst the Eastern Ghats meeting the Western Ghats. Spanning an area of around 540 square kilometers, the B.R. Hills links the Eastern Ghats and the Western Ghats, creating a crucial wildlife corridor, seamlessly blending dry and moist deciduous forests. It is part of the Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary and is a protected reserve, known for its diverse flora and fauna. It hosts a rich variety of wildlife including elephants, tigers, leopards, and over 250 species of birds, making it a prime location for ecological studies and conservation efforts. The natural beauty of B.R. Hills attracts nature lovers, birdwatchers, and trekking enthusiasts. The area is also famous for the Soliga tribe, an indigenous people known for their traditional knowledge of the forest and its medicinal plants.
