BRT Tiger Reserve, also known as Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Tiger Reserve, is a protected area in the Biligiriranga Hills of Karnataka, India. Established in 1974 as a wildlife sanctuary, it was upgraded to a tiger reserve status in 2011. Spread over 574 sq km, it bridges the Eastern and Western Ghats and is home to diverse ecosystems. The reserve is named after the Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple situated on a white cliff which gives the hill its name. It hosts a variety of flora and fauna, including endangered species like tigers, elephants, and leopards. The forest varies from dry deciduous to moist deciduous to evergreen, making it a unique biodiversity hotspot. The Soliga tribe, an indigenous people, inhabit the area and co-exist with wildlife, their lifestyle woven into the ecology of the forest.
