History of Tourism

Boga Lake, also known as Bagakain Lake or Boga Lake, is a natural wonder located in the hill district of Bandarban in Bangladesh. This high altitude lake is nestled at more than 1,200 meters above sea level and is believed to be around 2,000 years old. Historically, this area was not widely known to the outside world due to its remote location and the indigenous communities that live in its vicinity.

Tourism in Bandarban, and consequently Boga Lake, began to grow in popularity in the late 20th century. Initially, it was the adventurous trekkers and nature enthusiasts who sought out the pristine beauty of Boga Lake and the surrounding hills. The region's appeal was further enhanced by its cultural richness, with diverse ethnic communities such as the Marma, Chakma, Bawm, and Tripura calling Bandarban their home.

In the early 2000s, with improved road infrastructure and government initiatives to promote tourism, Boga Lake started to attract a larger number of local and international tourists. Guesthouses and eco-friendly resorts began to emerge, catering to the needs of visitors, yet striving to preserve the lake's untouched beauty.
