Chitkul is the last inhabited village near the Indo-China border in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, approximately 20 km from Sangla. Nestled at an altitude of 3,450 meters in the Himalayan range, it's known for its serene beauty, picturesque landscapes, and pleasant weather. The village is adorned with wooden houses, a temple dedicated to the local goddess 'Mathi Devi', and a small Buddhist temple. It's encircled by snow-capped mountains, apple orchards, and the pristine Baspa River that enhances the village's charm. Chitkul has a unique identity for being the last point in India one can travel to without a permit. Life here is tough, with heavy snow cutting off access during winters, but the warmth in the hearts of the local people is palpable. Agriculture and cattle-rearing are the main occupations, and the village is renowned for its high-quality potatoes. Chitkul also serves as a starting point for various treks into the Himalayas and is part of the Kinnaur Kailash Parikrama trek.

Calm, beautiful walk
We took a short walk around the village. It has a calm vibe to it. We did see the famous zostel property in chitkul. They are quirky wall art on houses.

Chitkul
Chitkul is the last village (then the border area starts after a few kilometres). It has a school, post office, and a dhaba (it claims Hindustan ka akhri dhaba (India's last food joint))
