The Culloden Battlefield is a historic site in the Scottish Highlands near Inverness, United Kingdom. It is the location where the Battle of Culloden was fought on April 16, 1746, marking the last pitched battle on British soil. The battle was the final confrontation of the Jacobite Rising of 1745, where the Jacobite forces led by Charles Edward Stuart, popularly known as 'Bonnie Prince Charlie', were defeated by the Duke of Cumberland's government troops. This defeat effectively ended any serious attempt to restore the exiled Stuart monarchy to the throne of Scotland and England. Today, the site is preserved by the National Trust for Scotland. A visitor centre provides exhibitions about the battle, and the battlefields are marked with clan stones to represent where the different Scottish clans stood during the fight. Memorial cairns and a central stone memorial pay tribute to those who lost their lives. It is a place of great cultural significance and a poignant site for reflection on the consequences of the battle for Scotland's future.
