Darul Aman Palace, meaning 'abode of peace,' is an iconic building located in Kabul, Afghanistan, representing a rich history filled with grandeur and tumult. Built during the 1920s by King Amanullah Khan, the palace was intended to be part of the new capital city and to signify the modernization of Afghanistan. The European-style palace has been a witness to many historical events, including the Soviet invasion, civil war, and the Taliban regime, which have led to its partial destruction. Extensive restoration efforts began in 2016 and were completed in 2019, allowing it to stand as a symbol of hope and resilience. The palace's architecture boasts a neoclassical style with a blend of European and traditional Afghan elements. The interior includes grand halls, intricate decorations, and historical artifacts. Situated atop a hill, it provides panoramic views of the Kabul cityscape. It now serves as a venue for official ceremonies and a museum chronicling the Afghan history.
Currently being rebuilt, but interesting nonetheless. The Queen's Palace is a short distance away and appears top be in much better condition.
