The Doge's Palace is a historical building located in the heart of Venice, Italy. As there are no cars in Venice, getting there involves walking or taking a water-based mode of transportation. Here are the most common ways to reach the Doge's Palace:

By Vaporetto (Water Bus)

  • Vaporetto Line 1 or 2: These lines stop at Vallaresso or San Zaccaria, both are close to St. Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco), where the Doge's Palace is situated. From there, it is a short walk to the palace.
  • Vaporetto Line 5.1 or 4.1: You can also take these lines to reach the San Zaccaria stop.

By Water Taxi

A private water taxi can take you directly to the Doge's Palace, offering convenience and a more private experience. It is the most expensive option but also the most direct and comfortable.

From Marco Polo Airport

  • Alilaguna Water Shuttle: The Alilaguna lines (Blue, Red, or Orange) connect the airport to Venice. The closest stop to Doge's Palace is San Zaccaria.
  • You can also take a bus or taxi to Piazzale Roma and then switch to a Vaporetto which will take you to the stops mentioned above.

By Foot

From Piazzale Roma or the Santa Lucia Train Station, you can walk through the city which might take around 45 minutes to an hour, observing the scenic streets and canals of Venice as you go.

Upon Arrival

Once you arrive at St. Mark's Square, the Doge's Palace is easily recognizable with its ornate Gothic architecture. It is located right next to the Basilica di San Marco. Look for the signs directing visitors to the entrance, which faces the waterfront near the San Zaccaria Vaporetto stop.

Opening Hours

The palace is usually open for visitors from 8:30 am to 7:00 pm, but these hours may change depending on the season or special events, so it’s always a good idea to check before planning your visit.
