The Dor Fortress, also known as Aligarh Fort, is a significant historical site located in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. Established in the 16th century by Muhammad, son of Umar the governor of Kol (the ancient name for Aligarh), it is situated on the Grand Trunk Road, making it a strategic point of defense in its time. The fortress was later rebuilt by the Marathas under the leadership of French officers. In the 18th century, the fort came under British control and was utilized as an important military station. The architecture of the fortress is a blend of Islamic and Indian design, and the robust walls and bastions stand as a testament to its sturdy construction, designed to withstand long sieges. Dor Fortress played a considerable role during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, where it served as a site for refuge and intrigue. Its historical significance aside, the fort now houses the Aligarh Muslim University's offices, academic departments, and residential quarters. Despite the changes it has undergone, it remains an edifice of immense historical value and architectural interest.

History in City of Locks
Aligarh named as the city of locks. Dor Fortress is situated very close to Railway station and Railway road market in the heart of the city. Not very popular among Aligarians.
