Type of destination: Historical Landmark
Ideal visit duration: 1-2 hours
Dutch Square, also known as Red Square, is a historical area in Malacca City, Malaysia. Renowned for its terracotta-red colonial Dutch buildings, it is a vibrant reminder of Melaka's history under Dutch administration during the period of European colonization. At its center stands the famous Christ Church, an 18th-century Anglican church, one of the oldest functioning Protestant churches in Malaysia. Next to it, you will find the Stadthuys, recognized as the oldest Dutch building in the East. Both buildings exude an aura of the bygone era with their distinctively Dutch architectural features, including hefty wooden doors, wrought-iron hinges, and Dutch roof tiles. The square is also home to the Tang Beng Swee Clock Tower, a Victorian-era structure resembling the Big Ben, that adds to the historical tapestry of the area. This picturesque area is often bustling with tourists taking in the sights, riding on the decorative trishaws, or enjoying the open market. The vibrant rickshaws and the nearby Jonker Walk, famous for its weekend night markets, add liveliness to the city's ambiance. Dutch Square's historical significance and its distinctive architecture make it a must-visit cultural destination in Melaka.

Vibrant place
Place is vibrant , buzzing with tourist. Mid day and till 4.30pm is way too hot so try going in morning elsewhere in evening when it cool down. Lots of tourist oriented shops and river cruise.
