Best Time To Visit Dutch Square (Red Square) (Malacca City (Melaka)) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Dutch Square, Malacca City

Visiting Dutch Square in Malacca, also known as Red Square due to its striking red-painted buildings, is a delightful experience throughout the year due to Malaysia's tropical climate. However, the ideal time to plan your visit would be during the dry season from April to October. During these months, the weather is relatively dry and suitable for outdoor activities, allowing you to explore the historic sites without the hindrance of heavy rains. Moreover, the daylight hours are longer, giving you ample time to enjoy the square's photogenic features, such as the iconic Christ Church and the Stadthuys. Evenings are particularly pleasant with cooler temperatures, perfect for leisurely walks and indulging in the local cuisine at the nearby eateries.

If you aim to immerse yourself in local culture, consider planning your visit to coincide with festive events such as the Malacca Art and Performance Festival or Chinese New Year when the square is bustling with energy and cultural performances. However, do note that these periods may also attract larger crowds and higher accommodation prices. Travelling during the shoulder months, like November or February, can offer a balance between the weather and crowd size. Regardless of when you visit, Dutch Square's rich history and vibrant architecture are a constant, providing a visual feast and a deep insight into Malacca's colonial past at any time of the year.
