Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary, located near Bomdila in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, India, is a biodiverse region in the Eastern Himalayas. Encompassing an area of about 217 square kilometers, the sanctuary ranges in elevation from 500 to 3250 meters. It gets its name from the Red Eagle Division of the Indian army which was stationed in the area in the 1950s. The sanctuary is part of the Kameng Protected Area Complex, which includes Pakhui Tiger Reserve, Sessa Orchid Sanctuary, and the Eaglenest. The dense forests of Eaglenest are home to a vast range of flora and fauna, including over 450 species of birds, which has made it a renowned birdwatching destination. Notably, the sanctuary is the discovery site of a new bird species called the Bugun Liocichla. The area also hosts numerous butterflies, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles. The topography includes lofty hills, deep valleys with streams, and steep terrain making it adventurous for trekkers and nature enthusiasts.
