Best Time to Visit Elephant Mountain (Xiangshan)

Elephant Mountain, also known as Xiangshan, is a popular hiking destination in Taipei, Taiwan, best known for its stunning views of the Taipei skyline, including the iconic Taipei 101 building. The best time to visit this scenic spot is during the dry season which extends from October to April. During this time, the weather is typically cooler and less humid, making the hike more comfortable and the skies clearer for photography enthusiasts looking to capture the cityscape. The late afternoon is an especially good time to hike Elephant Mountain, as visitors can witness the sunset and the city lights turning on, creating a breathtaking view from the viewing platform.

Visitors aiming to avoid large crowds should consider a weekday visit, as the trails are generally less busy than on weekends. Furthermore, visiting during the local spring (April to early June) can be particularly rewarding due to the pleasant temperatures and lush greenery along the trail. Morning hikers often enjoy cooler weather and a quieter experience. It's also worth noting that the climb involves many steps and can be strenuous, so adequate water and suitable footwear are essential. Additionally, due to its popularity among tourists and locals alike, it's wise to arrive early to secure lesser congestion on the trails and at the summit.
