Green Island Taitung Tourism

Green Island, also known as 'Ludao', is a small volcanic island located in the Pacific Ocean, about 33 kilometers off the eastern coast of Taiwan, near the city of Taitung. This picturesque island is renowned for its lush foliage, abundant marine life, and crystal-clear waters, making it a paradise for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts. The island is also home to the Zhaori Hot Springs, one of the only three saltwater hot springs in the world. Visitors can enjoy the unique experience of hot spring baths with ocean views. The island's history includes a darker chapter when it was used as a penal colony for political prisoners during the 1950s and 1960s. The Green Island Human Rights Culture Park and the Green Island Lighthouse are significant landmarks with historical importance. With a rough circumference of 16 kilometers, the island can be easily explored by scooter or bicycle, allowing tourists to visit various attractions such as the Green Island Little Great Wall and the Sleeping Beauty Rock.
