GUM, or the State Department Store, is an iconic shopping mall located in Moscow, Russia, facing the Red Square. It is a prominent structure known for its impressive architecture and historical significance. Constructed between 1890 and 1893 by architect Alexander Pomerantsev, GUM embraces a unique blend of Russian medieval architecture and a steel framework and glass roof, reminiscent of the great European shopping galleries of the period. Its facade extends 242 meters along the eastern side of Red Square, and its grand interior comprises three parallel arcades topped by elegant glass and steel vaults. The arcades are lined with a variety of high-end shops, dining options, and boutiques, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists. GUM operates not only as a shopping center but also as a cultural and social landmark, with its space being used for various events and exhibitions. The interior's décor changes with seasons and holidays, attracting visitors to enjoy the festive ambiance. GUM's history has seen it transform from a trading row to a state department store in Soviet times, to a modern shopping mall with a preserved historical atmosphere.
