The High Place of Sacrifice, also known as Al-Madbah in Arabic, is one of the key religious sites located in the ancient city of Petra, Jordan. This historical landmark is situated at the top of a mountain, which requires visitors to embark on an ascending path of approximately 850 steps carved into the rock. The path itself is an adventure, offering stunning views and encounters with remnants of Nabataean culture along the way. At the summit, around 170 meters above the valley floor, there are several structures carved into the rock, believed to have been used for religious ceremonies and animal sacrifices by the Nabataeans over 2,000 years ago. The site includes an altar platform, a sacred standing stone, and a large courtyard. The panoramic vista from this high place is breathtaking, encompassing the surrounding mountains and the ancient cityscape of Petra below. The ascent and exploration of the area give a profound sense of connection to the historical and spiritual significance of the area.
