Best Time To Visit Hippodrome (Jerash) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Hippodrome in Jerash, Jordan

The optimal time to visit the Hippodrome in Jerash, Jordan's ancient city known for its well-preserved Roman ruins, is during the spring months, from March to May. During this period, the weather is comfortably mild with average temperatures ranging between 8°C to 24°C, creating an ideal climate for outdoor exploration. The spring season also sees the countryside become vibrant with wildflowers, enhancing the historical site's beauty. Additionally, this is just before the peak tourism season starts, so visitors can enjoy exploring the second largest Hippodrome in the Roman world with fewer crowds. Moreover, Jordan's independence celebrations in May offer a glimpse into local culture and festivities.

Conversely, autumn, from September to November, is another excellent time to plan a visit. The weather is akin to spring, thus enabling pleasant sightseeing conditions. A visit in early autumn allows one to witness the Jordan Festival, which occasionally hosts events at Jerash, including performances in the ancient city itself. Rainfall is minimal during these months, ensuring that the ancient cobbled streets of the Hippodrome and surrounding ruins remain accessible. Visitors should avoid the summer months of June to August due to the scorching heat, and the winter months from December to February when the region can experience rainfall and even snow, which might lead to certain areas within the site being less enjoyable or accessible.
