Must-Try Foods In Holyrood Palace (Edinburgh) For Tourists 2026 - 2027

Food History of Holyrood Palace, Edinburgh, United Kingdom

While the history of Holyrood Palace does not primarily focus on food, its status as a royal residence means that it has witnessed its fair share of lavish banquets and royal feasts over the centuries. Situated at the end of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, Holyrood Palace has been the seat of kings and queens since the 16th century and has played host to numerous influential figures and grand occasions. Food served in the palace would have reflected the wealth and status of the monarchy, including imported luxury goods and the finest produce available.

Historically, Scottish cuisine at Holyrood Palace would have included fresh game, local seafood, and foraged foods from the surrounding lands. Feasts and celebrations would have seen a spread of meats, pies, breads, and sweet treats, all washed down with fine wines and spirits. While we focus on non-cow based food options, traditional Scottish fare such as haggis (please note that traditional haggis contains sheep offal) and black pudding have likely graced the tables of Holyrood Palace in former times, along with farm-grown vegetables and fruits from the royal gardens.
