Howrah Bridge (Natural rock formation) Tourism
Type of destination: Natural Rock Formation
Ideal visit duration: 1 - 2 Hours
The Howrah Bridge is a natural rock formation located on Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep) in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. It is not a man-made structure but an iconic arch-shaped rock bridge that stands majestically at one corner of the island. Neil Island itself is a small, serene island known for its coral reefs and white sandy beaches. The bridge is named after the more prominent Howrah Bridge in Kolkata due to its supposed resemblance. This natural formation has been shaped by years of weathering and erosion from the elements. It is easily accessible from Bharatpur Beach, which is just about 2 km away. The Howrah Bridge is a popular spot for nature lovers, photographers, and those looking to explore the unique marine life in the tidal pools that form around the rocks. The area's natural beauty is particularly striking at low tide when the rock bridge is fully visible, and the surrounding coral reef becomes partially exposed, revealing an ecosystem teeming with marine life.
