Best Time To Visit Innwa Ancient City (Mandalay) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Innwa Ancient City

Innwa, also known as Ava, is an ancient city near Mandalay in Myanmar (Burma) that boasts a rich history as a former royal capital. The best time to visit Innwa is during the dry season, which runs from November to February. During these months, the weather is more temperate and there’s less rainfall, allowing for pleasant travel conditions and the opportunity to explore the historic sites comfortably. The temperatures usually range between 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F), which is cooler than the sweltering heat experienced later in the year. The cooler climate makes it ideal for walking around the ancient ruins, enjoying the scenic surroundings of the old city walls, watchtowers, and the famous teak Bagaya Monastery without the intense heat and humidity present during other months.

Traveling to Innwa during the peak tourist season between November and February also means that you will encounter more tourists and higher prices. However, the weather benefits significantly outweigh the downsides. If you prefer a quieter visit with fewer crowds, consider arriving just before the peak season begins or as it ends. March can also be a good time, but be prepared for warmer weather as this signals the onset of the hot season, with temperatures gradually rising before reaching their peak in April and May. Remember to bring sunscreen, hats, and water during your visit to Innwa no matter the season, as the sun can be quite intense whilst exploring the historical sites spread across the landscape.
