Jermuk is a mountain spa town in the southern Armenian province of Vayots Dzor, nestled within the forests and cliffs of the Arpa river gorge. Renowned for its hot springs and mineral waters, the town is surrounded by alpine meadows and rugged mountains, making it a scenic retreat at an altitude of 2,100 meters above sea level. Jermuk's healing waters have been a draw for centuries, reputed to have curative properties for various ailments. Some of the springs emerge at temperatures up to 65 degrees Celsius, and are cooled to tolerable levels for balneotherapy treatments. The water's composition includes a multitude of minerals, notably containing high levels of hydrocarbonate and sulfur. The town has numerous sanatoriums, health resorts, and well-maintained parks, catering to health-conscious visitors. Aside from its spas, Jermuk also features attractions like the Jermuk Waterfall, one of the highest in Armenia, and a beautiful surrounding landscape ideal for hiking and nature exploration. In winter, the town transforms into a ski resort with its own ski lift and slopes suitable for amateur skiers. The town’s economy heavily relies on tourism due to its natural and medicinal attractions.
