Sevan is a town located in the Gegharkunik Province of Armenia, known for its striking alpine beauty and cultural significance. It sits at an elevation of 1,900 meters above sea level, on the northwestern shores of Lake Sevan, which is one of the largest freshwater high-altitude lakes in Eurasia. Covering an area of about 1,242 square kilometers, Lake Sevan is a major tourist attraction, offering opportunities for swimming, boating, and sunbathing on its beaches. Around the lake, there are numerous resorts, campsites, and cultural landmarks, such as the Sevanavank Monastery, which dates from the 9th century and offers a glimpse into Armenia's ancient ecclesiastical architecture as well as panoramic views of the lake. The area is also known for its distinctive biodiversity and is home to various species of fish, birds, and plants. The lake's dramatic change in color, from deep blue to turquoise depending on the time of day and sunlight, further adds to its allure.
